How to transcribe audio in Claude

  1. Add the connector

In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors. Click Add, choose Add custom connector and paste https://transcribe.so/mcp. Sign in with your transcribe.so account, or create one. Claude asks you to allow the tool the first time; allow it.

  2. Paste a link

Drop a YouTube video, an Apple Podcasts episode or a link to an audio or video file into the chat and ask for a transcript. Want the price first? Ask for it. Quotes are free, and you pay only when a job starts.

  3. Ask

Ask for who said what, chapters, a quote with its timestamp, or subtitles. Ask for the timestamp and, on YouTube, it links to that moment in the video, so you can check it.

Try asking

  • What will it cost to transcribe this? [link]
  • Transcribe this interview and tell me who said what about pricing, with timestamps.
  • Give me chapters with timestamps for this episode's description.
  • Find where they talk about the launch date and quote it.
  • Give me SRT subtitles for this video.
  • Across my last three meetings, what did we decide about hiring? Cite the moments.

Questions

Can Claude transcribe audio on its own?

No. Claude can't listen to an audio or video file in the chat. With the transcribe.so connector, Claude sends the link to transcribe.so, which makes the transcript, and Claude answers from it.

Which Claude plans does it work on?

Every Claude plan can add a custom connector, and the Free plan allows one. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds it once for the organization. Each member still connects with their own transcribe.so account. It works in Claude on the web and in Claude Desktop.

Can I upload a file from my computer?

Claude chat sends links, not files. Upload the file in the transcribe.so web app, then ask Claude about it, since both use the same library. In Claude Code, the agent can upload files from your computer itself. Set up Claude Code.

Which links work?

YouTube, Apple Podcasts episodes, Vimeo, Loom, SoundCloud, Google Drive or Dropbox share links, and direct audio or video file links. Spotify links don't work yet. The link has to open without a sign-in.

How much does it cost?

Quotes are free, so you can ask for the price before anything starts. New accounts get free credit. After that you pay per recording or pick a plan. See pricing.

How long does a transcript take?

It depends on the length of the recording, and even a short clip takes a few minutes. Claude starts the job and waits for it. For a long recording, ask again later in the same chat or open it in your library.
